Riding Out The Challenges

The “in principle” agreement by Grant Robertson around the introduction of debt-to-income ratios for investors is being seen by some as the latest attack on investors. In order to help those investors who are committed to the “long-haul”, we have been chatting to industry experts on ways in which to ride out this challenging time and move ahead successfully as an investor. We discuss the pros (and cons) of new builds, making use of smart cash strategies, buying off the plan, paying down debt, and other means by which to tighten up your investment portfolio.

As an adjunct to our lead story, we are taking a close look at the Treasury’s predictions (presented in this year’s Budget) of a massive drop in price growth. Given that REINZ data from May this year revealed house price growth of 32.3% year-on-year, the prediction of a drop to 0.9% house price growth by mid-2022 seems bold (to say the least).

If you’re looking for some inspiration (and proof that there is still money to be made in the property market) our Profile this month is likely to work wonders. Jasmeet Singh has been an investor for under two years, but his patience, research and understanding of the market has seen him make some impressive property progress in an extremely challenging market.

It’s certainly an interesting time to be a property investor, but it pays to keep things in context. We are so lucky to be living in a country where we have freedom of movement; a country in which we can mix and mingle (and go to open homes) without the fear of a deadly virus. It pays to be positive, even if things seem challenging at times, and count our blessings. We hope you enjoy our latest offering and wish you all the best in your property journey.
